Summer homes

Summer is warming up, and most people are dreaming of far-flung climes. But for many of us, jetting off somewhere exotic simply isn’t an option this year. But that doesn't mean we should sacrifice the vacation vibe! Here are some tips to make your home feel like a holiday destination this summer. So you can staycation in style!

BRING THE OUTSIDE IN

One of the easiest ways to feel relaxed is to connect to nature. So, this summer, why not bring some of the outside in? Bright foliage with plants and flowers can significantly impact your mental health. Plants can help clean the air while creating a sense of wellbeing, serenity, and creativity. And, if you are feeling inspired, you could even embrace the botanicals with an on-trend indoor garden or living wall!

Alternatively, if you don’t have green fingers, you can simply invest in some artificial foliage to create an environment reminiscent of warm, sunny days (without worrying about a lack of sunlight!).

Another way to make you feel at home with nature is by using shades of green. A key trend last season, green will continue in popularity throughout 2022 (and beyond). So invest in green cushions, candles, and other decorative accessories to re-energise your home this summer. From calming olive to fresh sage, the colour green is sure to have a positive effect on your psyche.

INVEST IN SOME CRISP WHITE BEDDING

When you think of the world's most refined hotel rooms, you will undoubtedly envisage super-fresh, cotton-soft white bed sheets. So give your bedroom that holiday vibe and invest in some crisp white bedding. While you can do this on a budget, luxury cotton or linen will make all the difference if you can stretch to it. Not least because they are exceptionally breathable and perfect for hot, sticky nights. We promise you will never go back!

Cool white linen curtains also look great in summer, with an almost sheer look reminiscent of far-flung tropical hotels and French chic. To complete the vibe, you could even invest in a ceiling fan.

USE NATURAL MATERIALS

You can use natural materials such as wicker to create a beachy vibe in your home. Especially when paired with soft summer shades such as white, cornflower blue and pistachio green. But if subtle isn't your thing, you can match wicker with bolder, brasher summer shades to create a real impact!

While wicker looks great in the garden, you can bring it indoors too. From lampshades to side tables and a whole range of accessories, this natural material will help you create a laid-back aesthetic for a beachfront resort-inspired home that will inspire renewal and relaxation.

GET OUTSIDE

For anyone lucky enough to have a garden, terrace, or balcony, get it ready for summer! To make the most of the season, look to create an outdoor kitchen with a cooking station (or even a wood-fired pizza oven!) and some beautiful outside tables and chairs. Nothing says ‘holiday’ more than al fresco dining!

Other ways to make the most of your outside space include lush plants, water features, lighting, and firepits for late summer nights with loved ones. If you have the space, you could even string up a hammock or create a (fixed or pop-up) tiki bar! And, if you have a deck, give it a good clean and stain before the season really gets underway!

CREATE AN AT-HOME SPA EXPERIENCE

Can’t get to the spa this year? Then let it come to you! Look at how you can improve your bathroom to make it feel more like a resort or fancy hotel.

It could be as simple as upgrading your towels and toiletries and buying some scented candles (especially those with fragrances that reflect the ocean or a tropical beach). Alternatively, you could upgrade to some stylish taps or a power shower to create an indulgent, luxury bathroom without the hassle of a full remodel.

A good de-clutter and some plants will also help to create a spa-like vibe. Whatever you do, you must hang a fluffy white robe on the back of the door to create an authentic resort experience!
